Wysocki Up By 5, McBeth Penalized 2 strokes – Round II Recap

Round 2 from the 2016 PDGA Professional World Championship brought some interesting developments and play. Here is your recap from Emporia.

Wysocki Takes Strong Lead with Solid Play.

Wysocki attacked Jones East on his second opportunity on the course. Almost matching his first round, Wysocki would card 14 birdies but would card a single bogey on Hole 15 after an errant drive. The hot round in MPO, Wysocki carded a 48 (-13), (-27) overall.  Ricky now sits 4 strokes in front of Nikko Locastro (-23) with Paul McBeth (-22) 1 stroke back of that and Devan Owens rounding out the card sitting at (-20).

During the live broadcast courtesy of Smashboxx TV, it was announced that Paul McBeth may incur a 2 stroke penalty from his 1st round play on Hole 7. McBeth self reported the error and after the round the PDGA did assess the penalty. McBeth apparently did not play his OB shot correctly on Hole 7. His traveling partner, Nate Sexton attributed it to not reading the caddy book thoroughly enough. See his play from Hole 7 in the above video, courtesy of Jomez Productions.

Other notable action from round two included solid rounds from Nikko Locastro going (-11), Will Schusterick and Bradley Williams both climbed the leader board finishing Round 2 with a pair of 51’s, (-10) respectively. If you watched Live Coverage of Round 2, you saw the struggles of Jeremy Koling. He just seemed to be off. Whether it was his grip, his concentration or something else, Koling made unforced error after unforced error. After a solid (-12) on the Jones West course in Round 1, Koling would only muster a 60 (-1) on his second time around.

Jennifer Allen Threatens, Catrina Allen Stays Steady

In the FPO Division, the ladies would move to Emporia Country club for Round 2. A more wide open course, ladies with distance have a bit of an advantage on the course. Jennifer Allen made a run and after about 6 holes found herself in the lead. Catrina Allen would card 3 double bogies in a 4 hole stretch. Down the stretch Catrina would steady herself and shoot the second best round of the day at (+8). Jennifer Allen wouldn’t finish so well going (+8) through the final 5 holes. She would finish at (+11) for the round and (+2) overall. She is 8 strokes back from the lead.

Once again, similar names are atop the leader board. Catrina Allen is at (-6) overall and holds a 3 stroke advantage over Paige Pierce (-3) and Sarah Hokom (-3). Joining them on the lead card for Round 3 will be another World Champion, Valarie Jenkins who is at (-1) overall.

Smith Still in Lead, McCray and Ramirez Catching Up

Chris smith continued his great play in Emporia at the Country Club with a solid 58 (-5). Smith is (-14) overall. Johne McCray would throw the hot round 57 (-6) to pull within 3 strokes of Smith. J.D. Ramirez would also card a 58 (-5) to move into a tie for 2nd with McCray at (-11) overall. Joining them on the lead card will be Chris Sprague who also threw a (-5) and sits at (-10) overall..
