The first NT and the official kick off for the 2015 PDGA Season has passed. The Memorial Championships presented by Discraft provided us with historic shots, a dramatic finish, and has helped propel disc golf into the national spotlight, if even for a second. These are your 2015 Power Rankings going into March. These rankings are based on player performances through February.
Open Men
1. Paul McBeth – He started the year ranked #1 in our Power Rankings. Winning the Aussie Open, and finishing 2nd to Jeremy Koling at The Memorial keeps McBeast at #1. We imagine he will stay there for a while, stolen bag or not.
2. Simon Lizotte – The German wonder kid keeps improving. He held the 54 hole lead at The Memorial and finished 3rd at the first NT of the year. This coupled with a 2nd place finish at the Aussie Open move him up from #5.
3. Ricky Wysocki – Wysocki drops a spot to #3. He seemed to struggle at times during The Memorial. It could be an adjustment to new plastic. He still managed a 6th place finish so he stays in our top 5.
4. Jeremy Koling – Koling makes his first appearance in our Power Rankings with a win at the first NT of the year. His clutch putt on hole 18 helped propel him to a $5000 payout for the 2015 Memorial Championships. Lets see if can carry this momentum going forward.
5. Will Schusterick – We had a hard time giving this 5th spot to Schusterick. He played well at The Memorial and pulled out a top 10 finish. He earns this spot after beating out Nathan Doss by 5 strokes. Doss played well, but didn’t finish as strongly as he hoped. His ace on the final day was historic though.
Remainder of Top 10:
6. Nate Doss 7. Dave Feldberg 8. Nikko LoCastro 9. Gregg Barsby 10. JohnE McCray
Open Woman
1. Paige Pierce – Pierce’s come from behind victory over Valerie Jenkins secure her atop the Power Rankings. Pierce has now claimed back to back Memorial Championships and moves back into our #1 spot where she started the year.
2. Valerie Jenkins – Jenkins held the lead after 3 of the 4 rounds at The Memorial. I am sure she will finish out tournaments a bit better going forward.
3. Catrina Allen – Catrina Allen finished 3rd at The Memorial but was a whopping 16 strokes back of Pierce. Definitely not her finest performance. She stays at #3 on our list.
4. Jennifer Allen – Jennifer Allen makes her first appearance in out Power Rankings. The absence of Ragna Bydge and her 4th place finish put her at #4.
5. Liz Carr – Carr also makes her first appearance on the Power Rankings with a 5th place finish at The Memorial.
