Wysocki Pulls Away, Pierce Narrows the Gap

It was another exciting day in Emporia for Round 3 of the 2016 PDGA World Disc Golf Championships!

Wysocki Pulls Away

Ricky Wysocki is starting to pull away from the field. Throwing down the hot round of the day with a 51 (-12), Wysocki now sits 8 strokes in front of Nikko Locastro. Wysocki pulled away at the Emporia Country Club course where he once again went bogey free and continued to drain putts. 12 birdies on the day is extremley impressive and Wysocki now sits at (-39) overall. Nikko Locastro put together a solid round with a 55 (-8). Keeping his cool through a few tough breaks, Locastro eagled the tough Hole 17 and now sits at (-31) overall. Trying to chase them down is Paul McBeth. McBeast also carded a 55 (-8) but now finds himself 9 strokes back. There is a lot of tournament left, but Friday will be a crucial day if McBeth would like to get his 5th World Championships in a row. His putting wasn’t as crisp and he definitely left some birdies out on the course. Look for Paul to be in full McBeast mode Friday at Emporia Country Club.

Joining the lead card for Round 4 will be Nate Sexton. Sexton put together a (-7) 56, as Devan Owens faded back with a 64 (+1). Mr. Consistent still has a considerable hill to climb as he sits 15 strokes back at (-24) overall. Devan Owens struggled at the Country Club course on Thursday. Carding 3 bogies and a double to finish the round, Owens could never get going and missed several opportunities for birdie. He falls from 4th place on the lead card to a tie for 9th with Eagle McMahon at (-19) overall. Eagle McMahon got off to a very hot start carding 5 birdies in the first 7 holes. He would slow down pretty heavily on the back nine going (+4) on the final 9 holes.

Pierce Narrows Gap on Allen

Paige Pierce, defending FPO Champion made her move Thursday at the Jones East course. Playing a solid, consistent round, Pierce would tie for the lead going into the final hole. Unfortunately she would card a bogey as Catrina Allen claimed a birdie. She is now 2 strokes back going into Friday. Pierce finished the round at (-3) with a 58 and Catrina Allen finished at 59 (-2). Catrina didn’t play bad, she just didn’t score. Carding only 3 birdies and 1 bogey, Catrina struggled with the putter at one point scoring 8 consecutive pars. Allen still holds the lead at (-8) with Pierce at (-6). Joining them on the lead card for Friday will be Valarie Jenkins sitting at (-3) and Sarah Hokom at (+2).

Smith Still on Top in Master’s Division.

Chris Smith is still holding down the top spot at (-19) as players beneath him continue to shuffle. Moving into the lead card was Shasta Criss at (-13) overall. Johne McCray is still in 2nd after a 57 (-4) at the Jones East course. He is now tied for 2nd though with Chris Sprague who carded the hot round of 55 (-6). “The Chaamp”, Ken Climo also made his move to the chase by matching Sprague’s 56 (-6).
