Round 3 at the grueling and XL layout of Vista Del Camino provided players with a tough challenge on moving day. Several players moved up and down the leader board to finalize their positions going into Round 4 at Fountain Hills DGC on Saturday.
Heading into Round 3 Paul McBeth was sitting in the lead. After Round 3 he would find himself 1 stroke back of both Nate Sexton and Philo Brathwaite. McBeast played fairly well but missed some putts he would normally make and threw out of bounds on holes 12 and 13 to finish at 50 (-10) for the round. Maybe it was the pants? Nate Sexton, Philo Brathwaite and JohnE McCray all shot the hot round at Vista Del Camino carding 48 (-12) for the day. Sexton started his round with three consecutive birdies and and never put himself in danger of a bogey. Brathwaite continued his solid play only carding one bogey to put himself tied for the lead. JohnE McCray climbed from the second card to the lead car with his (-12) round ripping off 12 birdies and no bogies on the day.
Matt Orum was the 4th player on the lead card heading into Round but could never get it going. Unable to capitalize on birdie opportunities, Orum also found OB and at one stretch marked a bogey 3 out of 4 holes. He finishes at 57 (-3) for the day and is now on the 3rd card for the final round.
Other notable scores from Round 3 include Nikko Locastro (-11), Anthony Barela (-10), KJ Nybo (-10), Dave Feldberg (-10) and Paul Ulibarri (-9). Falling back a bit were Simon Lizotte (-7) and Ricky Wysocki (-7).
On the FPO side of the fields, Catrina Allen was able to climb back out in front by one stroke over Paige Pierce. The only female player under par at Vista Del Camino, Allen shot a 59 (-1). Pierce and Allen pulled away from the field and have a 10 stroke difference going into the final round. It will come down to those two to determine a winner. Joining them on the lead card will be Jennifer Allen (+4) and Sarah Hokom (+6).
