Played AM golf with the crew this morning at 6:30. We play Old Post Park in Russellville, AR. I was putting good this morning for whatever reason, and got into a good rhythm. My best score here was previously a 51 (-3). By the 13th hole, I realized I could possibly get a 49. Our 14th hole is a tough 2 and I hardly get it. It requires a very well placed drive over the road (O.B.) and back in, to a pin about 325 feet away. There are trees scattered throughout and the canopy catches a lot of discs. It requires a very well thrown drive, and you can’t get away with anything. I took a 3 and moved on to the short, birdie-able 15. I missed my birdie putt, tapped in for par and was sitting on a 50. I birdied over the pond on 16, and lined up my drive for 17. I am very confident on hole 17. I feel it could be my next ace if you know what I mean. I put it about 30 feet away. I missed my putt right. Had I birdied 17, I would have been down to a 48 with a par on 18. I didn’t, so now I had to par the 18th hole to get my 49.
The 18th hole at Old Post Park, is 603 feet with a mandatory tree about 400 feet down the fairway. The mandatory corners the hole with it having a 90 degree dog leg right. So, you need to throw past the mandatory to have a clean look at an upshot, to score par. I didn’t get it all the way there, but had a decent angle. I tried to turn over a Buzzz, but didn’t commit fully. I hit a tree leaving a 80 foot upshot/putt.
My buddy said go for it, and I did. I hit the cage. A 50. My best score ever, but bittersweet for me, cause I wanted to hit the 40’s.
